When it comes to bags, CELINE by Hedi Slimane has had a history of hits. And that’s partly thanks to the celebrities that they’ve been associated with. Recall the early days before Slimane’s official debut collection and you may remember Lady Gaga toting around the structured 16 that was essentially a sneak peek into what the artistic, creative and image director was set to unveil as the new CELINE.

Then there’s the brand’s global ambassador Lisa of Blackpink. The K-pop star has been frequently captured wearing various manners of the CELINE Triomphe series — from the bucket bag variation to her favoured Teen Triomphe silhouette, and in a variety of treatments too.

New this season is the undeniably chic Tabou series that already has an equally strong celebrity endorsement. Chic because it’s designed along the same vein of the 16 in that it’s super sleek and features meticulously topstitched finishing as well as a decorative lock as its only hardware. It has that same structured construction and an almost-vintage feel — a surefire sign that no matter how long you own one, it’ll never go out of style — especially since its design is inspired by a piece from the brand’s archives back in the ’80s.

This particular rendition of the Tabou (officially called the Medium Tabou) comes in only one size. But with its gusseted design, it’s definitely roomy enough to fit more than just your daily essentials.

For something a tad more playful, there’s a smaller interpretation of the Tabou: the Clutch On Strap Tabou. As seen on Squid Game‘s HoYeon Jung (top image), the core design elements from the Medium Tabou are retained but rendered in a much smaller size and with only one main compartment fitted with an internal card slot. The beauty in this particular piece is in the addition of a top handle as well as a shoulder strap. Carry one by the top handle or wear it crossbody; don’t we all love a bit of versatility?

What’s apparent in every CELINE by Hedi Slimane bag is in the way that they capture that sense of Parisian flair. They don’t necessarily, strictly follow either formal or casual sensibilities — they’re designed to be perfect accompaniments to both and anything in between. And that means whether you’re dressed up for a formal dinner, hitting the town for a flirty night out, or even just running errands, the Tabou could very well be the accessory.
