In that vein, we’re pleased to report that the beauty sphere is of no exception to this — where technology has allowed for more-potent-than-ever formulations as well as aesthetic treatments. Case in point: Profhilo; a minimally-invasive injectable that boasts an efficacy rate beyond traditional dermal fillers and skin boosters. Intrigued? As you should. And so, we got Dr Elias Tam, Medical Director of EHA Clinic, to dish the dirt.
What is Profhilo, exactly?
To put it in simple terms, they are hyaluronic acid injections. Depending on the customer’s needs, a certain number of Profhilo injections are administered to address dryness, sagging, skin-ageing, and more. It comprises the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid in the market so far, and can be utilised beyond the mien to include areas such as the neck, hands, and more.
How does it work?
Ultra-pure hyaluronic acid is injected to the specified area, where it will then begin to diffuse. This, in turn, stimulates collagen and elastin production. All of this is said to occur over the course of 28 days, with doctors recommending two treatments spaced a month apart to witness optimal results.
What are the benefits of Profhilo?
Not only does it provide intense hydration for parched complexions, it also treats fine lines and wrinkles; reduces the appearance of enlarged pores as well as acne scars; and grants a “lifted” effect to skin that makes users appear younger. In short: Think of it as an elixir of youth encapsulated within needles.
Are there any risks associated with Profhilo?
One of the biggest selling points of Profhilo is how safe the procedure is. Unlike other injectables or skin-boosters in the market, Prohfilo doesn’t contain a synthetic chemical cross-linking agent dubbed 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether. This translates to a lowered risk of inflammation and lumps in the skin.
Will there be any pain involved?
I, Beauty Editor Emily Heng, underwent the treatment and found the pain level to be tolerable. If anything, I’d say it is akin to having a rubber band snapped across your face with a slight amount of pressure felt with each injection. Numbing cream is applied before the procedure, and EHA Clinic went above and beyond in my case, where a massage tool was applied to my face throughout so I’d be distracted during.
Is there any downtime required for Profhilo?
It is recommended that you refrain from strenuous activity, alcohol consumption, and makeup in the next 24 hours or so. Injected sites may also appear flushed or red for several hours after, where small “hives” appear in the wake of the procedure. It should be noted that there is also the likelihood of bruising, though that is largely dependent on the individual’s skin type.
Typically, how much does Profhilo cost?
This, too, varies according to your clinic of choice and area of treatment. Typically, it costs about $1,000 per syringe.
