share the story

In a span of a few months, life as we know it has drastically changed. The coronavirus pandemic has upended many lives, and nothing feels certain anymore  from our health to our jobs. Combined with other stress issues like the economic downturn and climate anxiety, it comes as no surprise then that everyone’s anxiety levels are edging towards Saw on steroids. Adjusting to the ‘New Normal’ (yes, it’s worthy of its own capitalisation) isn’t easy, and many of us are deeply feeling the ramifications of it.

Getting to a calm state of mind is easier said than done, especially since going to a spa or wellness centre isn’t exactly the safest idea right now. To help relieve some of your anxiety you might be currently feeling, we’ve put together a list of stress-reducing wellness products. From sleep gummies to essential roll-ons, these anxiety-dispensing products could help you feel less strung-out and relieve some tension.

Pillow Sprays

Getting a good night’s sleep can sometimes feel impossible, especially if your stress-filled mind is packed with incessant concerns and worries. To help you get some decent shut-eye time, try a pillow spray infused with calming essential oils. Scents like lavender and chamomile can help calm your mind, allowing for improved sleep quality. Simply spritz some on your pillow as you’re getting ready for bed, and you’ll wake up feeling refreshed and much better the next morning.

Melatonin Gummies

If the pillow spray isn’t working for you, a short-term melatonin supplement might do the trick instead. Popular options include the OLLY sleep gummies, infused with a blend of melatonin, L-Theanine and botanicals. Besides helping to boost your natural sleep hormones, they’re also said to be incredibly yummy, akin to gummy sweets. For those worried about potential side effects of melatonin, Mayo Clinic states, “Melatonin is generally safe for short-term use. Unlike with many sleep medications, with melatonin you are unlikely to become dependent, have a diminished response after repeated use (habituation), or experience a hangover effect.”

Epsom Salt Bath

Visiting a spa in this current climate might be challenging, but creating a mini spa at home isn’t. If you’ve been feeling tensed lately, a warm Epsom salt bath is said to work wonders when it comes to calming your muscles and rejuvenating your body. Fill your bath with warm water, sprinkle in a couple handfuls of salt, light some candles and settle into your mini home oasis.

Aromatherapy Roll-Ons

Aromatherapy has been proven to be incredibly effective when it comes to relieving anxiety. Essential oils the likes of lavender, frankincense and ylang ylang are natural healing remedies to help soothe the mind. In recent years, roll-on bottles housing such essential oils diluted with a carrier oil have received a spike in popularity due to their convenience. All you have to do is rub the oil on your pulse points, and take a moment to inhale and ease your mind. Not only do the small rollerball bottles allows for one to explore multiple scents, but they’re also convenient enough to use in public spaces and slip into bags or pockets after.

Weighted Blankets

You’re probably familiar with this must-have item that popped up on everyone’s social media during the peak of quarantine, but if you haven’t heard of weighted blankets before, they’re exactly what their name suggests heavy blankets filled with materials like beads or pellets. The weight is evenly distributed throughout the blanket, leading one to feel deep pressure when under the blanket. Weighted blankets have shown to have a calming effect and improves sleep as they help provide deep pressure stimulation. Pressure on the body have been proven to help slow down hearts that are beating too fast due to anxiety and stress. A literal security blanket in itself, they’re also another form of pressure therapy by replicating pressure touch akin to a hug.

Weighted Sleep Masks

AKA, a weighted blanket for your eyes. Just like traditional eye masks, weighted sleep masks help block out any light whilst you’re asleep. Unlike flimsy sleep masks though, their weighted counterpart contains compression materials like glass beads or microbeads to help provide deep pressure stimulation, similar to weighted blankets. This helps provide some form of tension alleviation from headaches and migraines, with the effects similar to a gentle massage around the eyes. For extra relief, pop the mask into the freezer for an icy cold touch.
