Zendaya pays a fashion tribute to Beyoncé.
There’s no doubt that Zendaya (together with the help of celebrity stylist Law Roach) is easily one of the most stylish celebrity of this generation. The duo paid tribute to another icon — the one and only Beyoncé — during the 21st BET Awards, with a more contemporary take on the same Versace dress that Queen Bey wore during the 2003 edition of the award show. Zendaya’s version had the dress lengthened but the vibe was still ‘Crazy in Love’ perfection. It even drew praise from Donatella Versace herself.
Bianca Saunders named ANDAM Fashion Award winner.
The ANDAM Fashion Award 2021 winner has been named and its none other than Bianca Saunders, the British menswear designer known for her gender-bending approach. Besides winning €300,000, Saunders will also receive mentorship from Cédric Charbit, chief executive of Balenciaga. The award winner was selected by a panel of jury that included Blackpink’s Lisa, and fashion designers Kerby Jean-Raymond and Phoebe Philo.
Balenciaga’s Instagram feed is now empty.
If you follow Balenciaga on Instagram, you may have noticed that the fashion house has decided to delete all of its posts and stories. The only thing that you’d find on the feed is an Instagram Story highlight of its upcoming couture collection that’s set to be unveiled on 7 July 2021. What does this mean? Well, no one is certain. It probably isn’t a sign of a new creative director though, or that something new is afoot. Perhaps, it’s just a signal of a new era that will be uncovered once Balenciaga’s return to the couture runway is revealed.
A Balenciaga campaign unlike no other.
In other Balenciaga-related news, the fashion house has just released its campaign for its autumn 2021 collection. Directed and produced by video game developer Quantic Dream (known for its popular Detroit: Become Human game), the campaign made use of motion capture technology to create animated versions of real-life actors. They’re then transposed in a virtual world where the two main characters encounter each other and seemingly aim to reconnect as they enter virtual reality realms. It’s quite meta but also pretty amazing for a fashion campaign.
Valentino launches an exclusive capsule with Mytheresa.
We can’t all travel leisurely at this point in time, but Valentino’s latest capsule collection embodies that endeavour. The Valentino Escape 2021 collection (quite an apt name, if you ask us) references ’60s prints and motifs from Valentino’s rich archives for an almost tropical vacation-like series underscored with vibrant colours. The collection is only available on valentino.com as well as Mytheresa, so these are clothes that will travel straight to you instead.
